The complex, situated on a low hill, serves as both housing and exercise area for two pairs each of elephants and rhinoceroses. The exterior, interior walls, and the S-shaped pathway running through the complex are designed so that the animals stand out clearly against the uniformly rounded and ribbed concrete walls. They move about on platforms slightly above pedestrian level. Visitors cannot see into the tall skylights; these illuminate the animal enclosures with sharply defined light, while the visitor area remains relatively dark.
