Town Hall in Miyakonojo/Japan

The building combines a solid and a flexible structure. The lower level, constructed of reinforced concrete, serves as a kind of plinth, allowing it to remain in place even if later modifications to the structure become necessary. The hall's roof, built upon this foundation, consists of steel frames braced with steel cables and clad with steel sheets; the interior surfaces are finished with acoustically enhancing panels. The entire upper structure, including the stage area, is designed for easy modification or replacement if required.
