Pilgrimage Church in Neviges
The church is the first phase of a pilgrimage centre to be built near the existing parish church and Franciscan monastery. Subsequent phases include a pilgrimage route from the train station to the church and surrounding buildings (a retreat centre and a kindergarten). The pilgrimage route overcomes an elevation difference of approximately 9 metres via several large staircases. The church, with 800 seats and standing room for 2200, has a highly articulated floor plan covered by a self-supporting folded concrete structure. The main church space, containing the high altar, the Blessed Sacrament Chapel, and the Chapel of Grace, is located on the ground floor. The sacristies are attached at the same level.
