Steps in Parks and Gardens
"Party Garden" at the International Horticultural Exhibition in Hamburg in 1963. The steps and edges are paved with granite. On the lower platform, the stones are spaced somewhat further apart, grouted with soil, and covered with grass. The central area is intended as a fire pit. Centre: Staircase in the open-air grounds of the University of Economics and Social Sciences in St. Gallen (architects Förderer, Olto, and Zwimpfer, Basel). The steps are cast in place, the landings are asphalted, with a planting basin in exposed concrete to the side, and painted steel lamps with Plexiglas light fixtures on concrete bases.
