Church Community Centre in Eichstätt
The very challenging, narrow sloping site below a major thoroughfare was to be developed with a church, a rectory, a kindergarten, and a convent. The church required 300 seats; the kindergarten, with its quiet room and play area, was to accommodate 80 children. The aim was to create a cohesive design, structured according to the specific purpose of each building. The difference in elevation within the available space was utilized by descending a 9-metre-wide staircase from the street to a 16 x 16-metre paved forecourt leading to the church.
