The architects Kunio Maekawa and his former student Otako are particularly concerned with counteracting rural depopulation by creating rural centres. They pursue three goals: 1. Renewing the Japanese way of life in adaptation to contemporary needs. 2. A new synthesis between the possibilities of agriculture and those of industrialization. 3. Architectural solutions that, in conjunction with other creative arts, can provide focal points for rural life.
