The available plot of land was subject to the stipulation that a "garden house" could only have a footprint of 30 square metres and a veranda a maximum of 10 square metres. Also a determining factor was the availability of planks measuring 4.50 metres long, 28 centimeters wide, and 4.5 centimeters thick, as well as panels measuring 0.92 x 2.20 metres. This significantly influenced the shape of the house; its support spacing is 0.96 metres due to the width of the panels. The depth is 3.00 metres + 1.50 metres for the veranda (the folding veranda was added later), thus 4.50 metres = plank length.
