Segmented Concrete Ceilings
The complex of greenhouses described above in the Botanical Garden of the University of Hamburg also includes a fern house. It required partial shade. Therefore, the ceiling was designed as a system of reinforced concrete beams with a triangular cross-section. The triangular openings were covered with 4 cm thick mirrored glass set in a permanently elastic putty. Above the ceiling is a public walkway leading to the terrace.
