The University of Sussex
For the building complex of the new university (see site plan on p. 41), a scenic, hilly little side valley with mature trees south of the Downs was chosen. It was decided from the outset that the entire complex, which was to be built in phases, should blend into the landscape in a differentiated way, avoiding the impression of "institutions" of the conventional and still mostly common type.
