Design and Planning: The theatre had to be built with relatively limited resources. Inspired by the open-stage theatre in Stratford, Ontario (by Sir Thomas Guthrie) and by models from Greek and Elizabethan theaters, the architects designed a hexagonal building with an open stage, around which 1,340 seats are arranged on three sides in rising rows, similar to an arena. The greatest distance to the stage is 30 metres.
