Housing development in Brighton
One Brighton is the first completed project to be built according to the One Planet Living principles for sustainability, which are promoted by BioRegional in collaboration with the World Wildlife Fund. This entails the implementation of ten principles for planning, design, construction, and operation of the development: Zero carbon; zero waste; sustainable transport; local and sustainable materials and food; sustainable water; natural habitats and wildlife; protection of local cultural heritage and diversity; increased health and safety; equity and fair trade. This goes way beyond sustainable building methods alone − the idea is that some of the most significant ways of achieving carbon reductions are through lifestyle changes, including car clubs, using public transport, and growing produce.
