In the wide Boite mountain valley, between the old Dolomite villages of Borca and Vodo (15 km south of Cortina), the E.N.I. (National Institute of Tourism) began construction in 1955 on a large holiday and recreation centre for its employees and their families. The centre, situated on approximately 200 hectares of wooded land rising from 900 to over 1200 metres above the Dolomite railway line to the 3262-metre-high Antelao massif, comprises self-contained districts of 50 single-family holiday homes each (five districts with a total of 240 houses completed, with a total of 600 houses planned), two hotels for single people or families with fewer than four people (with a total of approximately 300 beds), a large holiday home (for 600 children up to twelve years old), a permanent holiday camp for about 200 young people aged 14 and over, and central buildings.
