Report: “MPavilion” – Temporary Pavilion in Melbourne

 - Peter Popp

Up close with the "Serpentine" concept: Since the Naomi Milgrom Foundation brought the idea of a temporary pavilion that changes annually to Melbourne, visitors to Queen Victoria Gardens have been treated to a fascinating spectacle every morning at precisely eight o'clock. Like a flower yearning for sunshine, the shell of the first "MPavilion" unfolds, transforming the landscaped park into a place of lightness and respite. With its expansive lawns and artificial pools, the structure is a prime example of design in the spirit of the "Picturesque" movement. This aesthetic ideal, developed in the late 18th century, explored the symbolic power of landscape and architecture as an exciting interplay. What setting could be more fitting for a structure whose playful appearance changes with the time of day, taking into account the whims of the weather?
