In the context of a workshop on the future of tourism in the Western Ghats, India, the architects, together with students of Trondheim University, developed a simple, modular, eco-friendly building system, consisting of prefabricated timber elements. Two pavilions were erected as prototypes. Roofs with large cantilevers, permeable walls and an elevated form of construction allow natural cooling and ventilation. Mainly regional materials were used, with laterite blocks for the foundations and acacia and eucalyptus wood for the structure. Bamboo facade bays provide protection against the midday heat. Electricity for the lighting is generated by solar collectors, and a small biogas plant provides fuel for cooking.
