St. Pius Church in Cologne

The church, which has approximately 300 seats, was built as the result of a 1957 competition for a new residential area. The site's layout allowed for a clear eastward orientation of the altar; the entire complex was designed accordingly. To the north lies a large open area with a kindergarten, and to the west, a predominantly two-storey building complex housing a post office, doctor's office, pharmacy, and other businesses. Within this context, the church complex is situated in the northwest corner of the area. It is sufficiently far from the main road to the east, with its large, three-storey apartment blocks, and from the relatively dense development to the south.
