Commercial Building Basel
Because construction had to take place in a narrow alleyway on a small plot, the building was designed with a vertical orientation and glass facades. It comprises four retail floors, a storage and office floor, a residential penthouse, and two basement levels. The ceilings rest on firewalls adjacent to the buildings, and otherwise on concrete pillars. The ground floor, with its frameless glazing, offers complete visibility. The upper floors are partially glazed with opaque glass (display cases are located behind the opaque sections, backlit from the glass walls). All glazing is made of double-glazed units.
