West Telephone Exchange in Amsterdam
This is an extension to the PTT (Swiss Post, Telegraph and Telephone) service building to increase its transmission capacity. Construction was carried out primarily using prefabricated elements. The load-bearing steel structure was clad with brickwork at the gable ends and with uniform precast concrete panels (concrete) on the main facades. A sufficient number of these concrete panels provide the necessary glazing for natural light. Fixed light baffles were attached to these panels on the facade with the main light source (see image top right).
