In place of three dilapidated old buildings, a dominant corner structure was created for the square designated as the centre of the spa district. The building program included a dining hall (200 seats), a café (110 seats), a cellar grill (120 seats), a multi-purpose hall (275 seats), and approximately 80 outdoor seats on the balcony and terrace. A large number of hotel beds were also desired. However, out of consideration for the castle opposite, a limited overall building height was stipulated. The existing large sandstone cellar vault beneath one of the demolished buildings was preserved and reinforced with a concrete beam. The column axes of the new building were aligned with this vault.
