Extension of an Organic Farm Development in Shanghai

This farming centre for organic food with its fields and packing hall is situated in the environs of Shanghai. The existing building has been extended by a striking green structure articulated into two parts that house offices, conference spaces and visitors’ areas. The development seems like a simple assembly of containers, but is in fact a complex spatial fabric, comprising some 78 units, each with a framework of hollow steel sections. The entrance situation is accentuated by a broad cantilevered volume, while in the outer areas, the box-like elements are resolved into covered platforms and bridges that link the visitors’ areas with the offices and provide outdoor workplaces and leisure facilities.
