This new public library is located in an area featuring a range of public facilities – administrative, cultural and entertainment – which serve the needs of the inhabitants of this multicultural small town (29,000 people) in Murcia. The library (2,500 m² of built space) and park (18,000 m²) seize upon the opportunity presented by the undulating topography of the Torre Pacheco development, for the creation of a lively arrangement of spaces for communication and relaxation. Largely single storey, the angled, reinforced-concrete building has a two-floor section, part of which is embedded in the ground. The soffits of the floor slabs feature interesting coffering with specially designed lighting set into the coffers at intervals.
