Report: Contemporary Art Container in Hong Kong

Last year the French fashion label Chanel invited twenty internationally acclaimed artists to find inspiration for new works of art in its signature purse, an item which has attained cult status after more than fifty years of production. The artworks will travel around the globe for two years in a mobile pavilion designed expressly to fit the program. Its amorphous, curvilinear envelope recalls the recently completed Hungerburgbahn stations in Innsbruck. There are, however, two major differences. On the one hand, this whirl surrounds an atrium covered with an ETFE cushion, and is a temporary and, when necessary, also air-conditioned building which must be dismantled and made ready for transport repeatedly and with the utmost speed.
