Built in 1873 on a brine spring in Berlin-Mitte, the Admiralsgartenbad was demolished as early as 1910. Designed by Heinrich Schweitzer and Alexander Diepenbrock, it was one of Berlin's largest entertainment venues, featuring a revue theatre, bowling alley, ice rink, brine baths, and a brothel, open 24 hours a day. Despite renovations, the building still bears the marks of its eventful history over the decades. The Admiralspalast is a vibrant piece of Berlin that survived the World Wars and the socialist era – but despite its protected status and 100-year tradition, it almost disappeared.
