The 182 m² house was designed to provide its two inhabitants with maximum comfort while consuming less energy than provided by the roof-mounted PV modules (annual energy production 7500 kWh/a). Furthermore the structure had to be completely recyclable which meant avoiding the use of glued joints or composites. Sandwiched between cantilever floor and roof, floor-to-ceiling glazing faces west, south and east. The roof rests on two shear walls to the north and four filigrane steel columns behind the south-facing glazing. D10 consists of a concrete basement with garage (sealed with mineral slurry rather than with bituminous caulking) and the ground floor constructed entirely in timber (although this is not apparent outside) with the exception of the steel columns.
