The Centre for Sustainable Energy Technologies (CSET) is located on the new campus of the University of Nottingham in Ningbo, China, and focuses primarily on the research and development of renewable technologies. Given this purpose, it was a natural step for the architects to design the 1,300-square-metre building itself as a prototype for consistent sustainable construction. Thus, attention was paid not only to using building materials and craftspeople from the region, but the building, whose exterior is inspired by regional architectural styles, also incorporates a range of passive and active building measures designed to make it self-sufficient in the future.
