This single family house is nestled into a sloped site in the community of Gordola in Ticino. The stunning natural landscape panorama was a significant theme of the design. The new house is placed along the ridge line and is lifted above ground by merely two support pillars. A paved pathway leads from the parking space with its striking roof at the access road to the entrance ramp. The bridge-like concrete structure of the house determines its interior organization. The two continuously glazed longitudinal facades of the building connect all rooms with the valley as well as the mountains. Individual rooms are situated behind the closed end walls of the building. The shared living room with kitchen comprises the centre of the house. The exterior concrete surfaces of the building were created by use of typical wood formwork. Together with the simple corner details, they emphasize the striking character of the structure. This creates an exciting interplay between lightness and solidity. With its controlled ventilation, the building conforms to the Minergie standard.
