Five years from the initial design concept to the building permit, plus another year of construction; and this is for a single-family home. That's a long time, and it sounds like it could be stressful, full of redesigns, delays, and problems. But appearances are deceiving. The collaboration went smoothly. Architects, clients, specialist planners, and the system integrator are still in contact, and follow-up projects are not out of the question. "Good things take time," as the saying goes—six years, which were necessary because "House H" is an experiment for everyone involved: users, architects, specialist planners, and manufacturers.
