A countryside excursion in southern Carinthia: lush green hills feast the eyes, the Drava River meanders gently below, and a picturesque Alpine panorama frames the idyllic scene. This corner of Austria, the Lavant Valley, is also known as "Carinthia's paradise." The drive along the Bleiburg Road, the B 81, offers magnificent views of the rolling valley. One feels as if one could drown in the vastness of the landscape. But just before that happens, a spatial sculpture made of concrete and gleaming metal emerges from the next bend. Razor-sharp and defined, it cuts through the hilltop, rising 30 metres from the earthen embankment.
