Process: Housing Project in Vienna
- Julia Liese
A group of people with a common interest had the vision of living together in a community and saving resources in the process. Jointly with a building developer, they erected an eight-storey housing block that contains not just 39 dwellings, but numerous community spaces as well: one for various events, a communal kitchen, a playroom for children and a workshop. The roof storey houses a sauna, a library, three guest flats and two communal roof terraces. Organized in an association, the residents undertake to do eleven hours’ community work a month for the maintenance of these facilities. The ground floor is enlivened by a cafe/shop and an office, which is used by the architects themselves.
