Report: Sculptural Tower in Cape Town – Building with Recycled Plastic Waste

 - Christian Schittich

Cape Town’s Greenpoint Park, near the 2010 World Cup stadium, has gained a genuine attraction recently – a small tower that glitters in the sunlight. The colourful outer skin of this structure reveals itself, on closer observation, to consist of plastic waste in gabions. The object was erected by the Munich installation artist Markus Heinsdorff and is meant to demonstrate that the material, which lies around everywhere, can be used to create simple yet well designed housing.
