Auction House in London

 - Roland Pawlitschko

Located at the heart of London, Bonhams auction house consists partly of listed building fabric. In 2013, the complex was adapted to meet present-day needs. The new entrance is located in a narrow historic building that, after being gutted, now forms an 18-metre-high atrium. A low passageway with a glazed roof leads to the reception area, which gives on to the 235 m² main auction room. This and two further auction spaces are in a new structure at the centre of the complex. The terracotta sunshading strips of this tract echo the front face of the historic building. From the ground floor, there is access to the upper and lower storeys via four lifts in the glazed south face or via a curving black steel staircase with oak-lined steps. All auction rooms receive daylight from the sides as well as having an LED system built into the gently curving soffit vaults.
