In the days before virtual design gained its foothold in architecture firms, sugar cubes were the model-building material of choice in the preliminary design phase when it came to study how the program would be distributed in building massing on the site. And that is exactly what Timmerhuis – a hybrid building whose first five floors contain the offices of the municipal administration – looks like.
