Residential complex in Zurich

For many years there was a small enclave in the Albisrieden district of Zurich which under tax regulations only semi belonged to Switzerland. From 1925 up until just a few years ago there were warehouses and sheds on the site, where imported goods were stored and processed by the customs authorities. More recently these warehouses have been relocated to a site close to the airport and have been replaced with a residential and commercial complex based on a masterplan by Meili & Peter Architects. The nine buildings contain 1,000 residential units, ranging from traditional two- to five-room apartments, to shared communal accommodation with up to nine rooms. 10 % of the rentable area is reserved for shops, businesses and offices: the last of which are expected to move in by the summer of 2017.
