Beijing Bookstore and Cafe
Rongbaozhai bookstore is located in Beijing’s famous Liu Li Chang shopping street. The two-storey building with its pseudo-classical neo-historic facade was built in the 1980s by the government. Originally it sold historic books, calligraphy publications and Chinese paintings but in today’s information age this traditional bookstore wasn’t able to attract enough customers anymore with its unique offering. It underwent a radical renovation and the bookshop was transformed into a more pleasure-orientied experience. Just like in a coffee shop customers can now browse the books on offer while chatting to their table companions and drinking a cup of coffee in a modern architectural setting dotted with green plants.
