In the city centre of Manchester, a new glazed pavilion now links two important public buildings: the central library and the city hall extension. Both structures were created in the 1930s by the same architect and in the meantime have been declared listed buildings. Between the two is a curved footpath, the so-called “Library Walk”. As part of a general rehabilitation, the service installations here were to be reorganized and direct links created between the two buildings – on the one hand, by means of a through route at street level that is protected from the weather; on the other hand, by new spaces in the basement.
