Report: Leutschenbach School Complex in Zurich-Schwamendingen

The Leutschenbach school building is one of Zurich's largest and most extraordinary school buildings: a striking glass cube supported by a visible steel truss structure, articulated by the narrow bands of the floor slabs, and crowned by a fully glazed gymnasium. In contrast to the horizontal division of many school buildings, the rooms here are stacked one above the other within a compact structure, minimizing the built-up area in favour of a spacious school park. As unusual as the building's form is, so too are its spatial concept, structural design, and choice of materials.
