Project + Product: Addition of a Penthouse to a High-rise Bunker in Hamm

In many German cities, high-rise bunkers are still a typical feature of the cityscape. Rough, monolithic, with exposed concrete, and often unsightly, they serve as reminders of the dark times of the Second World War. Many of them were only built in the 1940s – when the war returned to Germany with the Allied bombing raids. A number of these reinforced concrete colossi are now being revived across the country. After decades of vacancy, new life is being breathed into these former utilitarian structures. And in their often urban environments, they are now more desirable than ever as historically significant living spaces.
