Concert Hall in Boca del Río

 - Andreas Gabriel

The new concert hall at the mouth of the Río Jamapa, where the river flows into the Gulf of Mexico, is housed within a group of massive concrete volumes with a seemingly random arrangement. In some ways, the architects' design might be seen to bear a certain resemblance to the huge rocks that line the adjoining breakwater. The outcome was a new object of meaningful expression in the urban landscape. Slight offsets in the boarded formwork intensify the powerful sculptural effect of the complex. Inside the striking outer form of the hall, which conveys a sense of massiveness and solidity, Rojkind Architects have designed an ultra-modern concert hall that meets the full requirements of a cultural centre with a manifold programme.
