In one of the few remaining ensembles of old buildings in Hong Kong Herzog & de Meuron and Rocco Design have inserted two new buildings which, through their shimmering aluminium facades, differ from their surroundings in a pleasantly homogeneous way. The sculptured structure of the building envelope modifies the metal's shininess and reveals the modular character. As aluminium is easily recycled, for the facade modules the architects used an aluminium alloy made from old car wheel rims.
