House near Valparaíso

 - Jakob Schoof

Located on the periphery of the town of Cachagua, which lies on Chile's Pacific coast, this pair of houses designed for two brothers is externally entirely in black. For a long time, the architect Alejandro Soffia planned to clad the facades and roof in timber. Eventually however, he decided to use a more long-lasting dark fibre cement cladding. Inside, the walls and ceilings are lined with light coloured pine. Although, as a result, the way in which the building is put together can no longer be read so directly, the facades with their storey-height windows still give one a clear impression of the modular nature of the construction.
