House of Music in Innsbruck

 - Julia Liese

With its dark, shimmering outer skin, the newly erected House of Music consciously sets itself off from the white and yellow facades of the historical neighbouring structures, yet without appearing to be intrusive. The outer walls are clad with glazed iridiscent ceramic bands that change in colour from a reddish-brown to black, depending on the incidence of light. At the same time, the varying extruded sections create an interplay of vertical linear lines that is continued in the upper parts of the development in the form of a strip facade. Together with areas of glazing of different sizes, a fascinating interplay of closed, half-closed and transparent zones has been created.
