Nossenhaus, built in 1620 in the alpine village, Andermatt, is a prime example of the traditional farmhouse of the Uri region in central Switzerland. Its white rendered plinth made of quarry stones supports a multi-storey log structure (Strickbau in German) made of timber beams laid one above the other and connected with wooden dowels. It is only at the northeast end of the house that the stone walls extend all the way up to the second floor. The house was in dire need of repair, with several families living in four small apartments on the upper floors, while the lower ground floor was partly used as a stable.
