High-Rise Housing Block in Brussels

 - Jakob Schoof

Since its inauguration in 1958, this high-rise housing block near Brussels North Station has been a landmark building, yet something of an alien object in the city. With its 13 storeys, it clearly overtopped the structures of the surrounding migrant and red-light districts, and its position, set back from the street line, underlined its unique character. Fifty-five years later, however, a rehabilitation was overdue for this social-housing scheme and the neighbouring building, erected at the beginning of the 1970s.
