Report: Laughing Matters: The State of a Nation

London‘s Victoria and Albert Museum received two new exhibition spaces adorned with bright colours, located in the so-called British Galleries wing. The stacked spaces are visually connected by a circular aperture between them. The lower space is the permanent home of the exhibition titled “Laughing Matters“ on British peculiarities summed up under the aspect of comedy. Designing it, Aberrant Architecture and the V&A Design Team felt inspired by David Hicks, who combined classical antiquity with modern elements and bright colours. The eccentric gesture of such stylistic fisticuffs are what the architects consider essential to “Britishness“.
