Holiday Guest House in California

Only a one hour drive from San Francisco and situated on a hillside surrounded by vineyards, this building ensemble designed by Mork Ulnes Architects is comprised of three identical guest houses that are diagonally connected. The rooms feature a balcony, bathroom, access corridor and two large glazed walls that are oriented towards the valley. Each of the three roof surfaces are folded upward along a diagonal line that crosses the bedrooms. They rise upwards towards the glazed corners and guide views into the exterior. The entire building is made of exposed concrete and features core insulation and underfloor heating in the bedrooms. The main design elements in the interiors include walls cast in wood panels and glazed in dark grey hues, polished screed and the tilted ceilings.
