For his hotel close to Waterloo Station in London, the client wanted a concept that combined the qualities of a design residence with those of an aparthotel. At the same time, the construction was to be simple, robust and flexible. The architects, Doone Silver Kerr, opted for the use of recycled shipping containers, which they fitted out very comfortably. Welded on to the front faces of the 25 stacked modules are distinctive steel sunscreen elements, the orangepainted inside faces of which lend the facade a certain depth. A white printed pattern on the lower halves of the window panes ensures greater privacy in the bedroom spaces to the rear. On the side faces of the development, the trapezoidal- section, white painted metal sheeting of the containers is visible, so that the five storeys of modules are clearly evident.
