To the south, the two classroom tracts of the Fermi Secondary School open via access balconies on to a park-like environment. Implemented as part of the educational initiative Torino fa scuola, the rehabilitation of the school is a pioneering scheme for the urban district in which it stands on the outskirts of Turin. It is a prime example of the sustainable redevelopment of a concrete skeleton-frame structure. Although the volumetric form was largely retained, and changes to the layout were relatively small, the building, dating from the 1960s, is scarcely recognizable today.
