Roof Extension in Munich

In Munich’s Maxvorstadt quarter the alpine panorama is visible even on a normal day. Here, Pool Leber Architekten designed a roof extension for a conventional residential building from the 1980s. The existing structure wasn’t equipped to bear additional loads. Therefore, Isabella Leber and Martin Pool decided to demolish the existing setback top floor. The new volume, placed on top of the existing structure, features solid timber, optimized in weight and clad in a back ventilated sheet steel facade. It comprises a total dwelling area of 550 m² distributed across two and a half levels. Balconies and terraces of polygonal form give the southern facade a sculptural appearance, visible from afar.
