Cultural Centre in the Loire Valley

 - Sabine Drey

With its 1230 m² of floor space, the cultural centre Pierre Blanches to the west of Nantes exceeds the scale of the small town of Saint-Jean-de-Boiseau. This is why the architects assigned each function to an individual, small building volume. They join the parts of this conglomerate together by use of uniform geometries and light coloured brick facades with a monolithic appeal. On the exterior, different functions can be identified by differences in building height. Visual connections and pathways between the cubes and large-scale glazing establish a close connection to the green environment.

The architects repeatedly create connections to the outdoor green areas. Large openings in the brick facade and far-reaching visual connections offer views towards the exterior. © Audrey Cerdan
