Grey concrete block set into a frame made of steel profiles with black paint finish characterizes the visual impression of the house in the former gold mining region of Minas Gerais in Brazil. Within the hilly landscape of a nature reserve Marcos Franchini and Nattalia Bom Conselho created a generous domicile for a family of three open to diverse living situations. Its rough, unfinished appeal is expressed by unrendered hollow block inlaid into the strict orthogonal grid of the steel construction. Room-height sliding windows on the eastern facade oriented to the valley create exciting contrasts and also provide spectacular views. Together with the adjacent terrace they seamlessly connect the two-storey living area with the surrounding environment. The freely flowing space on the ground floor is complemented by a guest apartment that features a separate entrance on the rear of the building. Residents can withdraw into private rooms that are located on the upper floor, accessed by a gallery.
