The three-storey house that Vorarlberg architect Sebastian Brandner built for himself and his four-person family is only 5 metres wide but 17.50 metres long. The tall narrow building stands like an exclamation mark in a small residential district that lies between sports fields and a large industrial site on the city’s extreme northern edge. The plot that measures just 400 m² is bordered on three sides by streets and access roads. Despite the exposed location Brandner made a radical decision to place the house openly, without hedges or fences, and just a minimal amount of landscaping. He and his family made a gravelled area in front of the building on the south side and planted a tree, the remainder is an open grassy area.
